🎣 Sevier River Trout Fishing – Cast a Line in Marysvale’s Mountain Waters

Flowing right through the heart of Marysvale Valley, the Sevier River offers anglers a peaceful and productive place to fish for wild and stocked trout — all set against the stunning backdrop of Utah’s high desert and mountain landscapes.

Whether you’re fly fishing at sunrise, relaxing with a spinning rod in the afternoon, or introducing your kids to fishing for the first time, the Sevier River delivers a relaxing, family-friendly, and rewarding experience,  just minutes from your campsite.

What You’ll Catch

The Marysvale section of the Sevier River is known for being well-stocked and naturally sustaining cold-water trout species, including:

  • Rainbow Trout 🌈 (stocked regularly)
  • Brown Trout 🟤 (wild and stocked)
  • Cutthroat Trout 🟠 (less common, but possible in cooler headwaters)
  • Occasional Brook Trout in nearby creeks

Many fish range from 10–16 inches, though larger trophy-sized trout are occasionally caught by skilled or lucky anglers.

Where to Fish

The Sevier River runs parallel to Highway 89 through Marysvale Valley, with multiple easy-access spots for shoreline or bank fishing.

Popular Fishing Spots:

  • North of Marysvale: Pullouts and river bends along Highway 89, especially near bridges and shady sections.
  • South of town: Quieter, less-visited access points with deep pools and long runs.
  • Private land sections: Always respect signs and use public access only.

From the campground: Most fishing access points are within a 5 to 10-minute drive. Some adventurous guests even access the river by ATV/UTV via county roads or Paiute trail crossings.

Fishing Conditions

  • Spring fishing (April-June) - Cool water, active trout, great fly fishing before runoff
  • Summer fishing (July-August) - Mornings and evenings are best; fish seek cooler waters
  • Fall fishing (September-October) - Excellent action, especially for brown trout during pre-spawn
  • Winter fishing - Limited but possible in open water stretches (ice and snow conditions vary)

Water clarity and flow levels can vary with snowmelt or rain. Check local conditions before fishing.

What to Bring

  • Utah fishing license (required for all anglers age 12+)
  • Fly rod or spinning rod (lightweight gear preferred)
  • Bait (worms, PowerBait), small spinners, or dry flies
  • Waders or water shoes (for wet wading or fly casting)
  • Polarized sunglasses (to spot fish and reduce glare)
  • Sunscreen and bug spray

Optional but helpful:

  • Landing net
  • Fishing vest or tackle bag
  • Cooler for catch (if keeping trout – follow limits)
